"The next book in the perennially adored No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series sees Precious Ramotswe calling upon all her maternal instincts when she's faced with a two-ton case. Mma Ramotswe is pleased with how her business is doing. She is a bit hazy about when exactly the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency was founded, but takes the view that it is time to have anniversary celebrations. She and Mma Makutsi set up a committee, consisting of the two of them, to plan the celebratory events, but the committee turns into something apparently permanent, meeting from time to time and rather enjoying the meetings (over lunch). The rationale of the committee is lost sight of, and no celebration ever takes place. Some things, Mma Ramotswe decides, are enjoyed more in the anticipation than the execution. Meanwhile, at a nearby game reserve, an orphaned baby elephant has been delivered. The reserve does its best to look after the elephant, but encounters opposition from neighbours. Charlie, the Agency's assistant detective/mechanic, hears that a group of young men are going to dispose of the elephant. Charlie is also juggling his engagement to Queenie Queenie, which is put into jeopardy when her father gets cold feet due to rumours spread by Queenie Queenie's brother about Charlie's past. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but can Mma Ramotswe and the rest of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency come together to raise a pipsqueak pachyderm and see an engagement through to its rightful outcome? We may find out in this novel."--
